Q:  Can all drain cleaning techs perform plumbing services?

A:  No.  Drain cleaning techs are not all plumbing techs and vice versa.  Though they are related trades, the licensed plumber can install, modify and repair drain/sewer systems but drain cleaning techs are maintenance service technicians operating drain augers which does not requires a license.  One should not assume that the drain tech is qualified to do what the  professional plumber can.

Q:  Should I try "Liquid Plumber" or "Drano" drain cleaner on my clogged drains before calling a plumber?

A:  Sometimes. Cloggs may be cleared with such drain openers on hair cloggs and grease, if you suspect however there is other than hair and grease (solid, fibery substances) then a drain cleaning professional will be needed.

Q:  When should I replace my water heater?

A:  Mostly when it starts to leak.  The steel tank eventually corodes and rust weakens the metal, in the good case scenario, a small leak apears, you must then shut off the water supply to the tank and start draining the water out using a garden hose.  You should then call a plumber to schedule a new installation.

Q:  How do you unclog a toilet?

A:  After you try the plunger to fix that clogged toilet or any other drain that's slow, you mayrealize that this does not work all the time.  Plumbers and drain techs do not use plungers, instead we use plumbing snakes or augers.  To clear a toilet the right way a toilet auger is needed, and usually it is a fast fix.  You are advised to avoid using the plunger on your toilet since it can compromise the wax seal at the base of the toilet when too much pushing moves the wax out.

Q:  Can you fix my leaky/noisy toilet?

A:  Yes.  When you call for a toilet service, it is usually for the toilets' tank.  There are several parts that may wear out inside that tank:  Flapper (the rubber that flips open when you flush the toilet), Fill Valve (the part that fills the tank with water and shuts off when it's full), Flush Valve, lever and seals.
